The 'Black Wound' exhibition was originated by the Newport Museum and Art Gallery in South Wales in 2000.
The works in the show chronicled the dismantling of the main Bargoed colliery coal tip which rose on the valley side between the site of the colliery and the town of Aberbargoed in the Rhymney Valley.
The artist's wife Liz (nee: Beaton-Jones), together with her parents, lived and worked in the valley. Alun met Liz at Newport College of Art.
The triptych to the left and below right is entitled
'Bargoed - Aberbargoed',
and uses acrylic, crayon and
photo-transfer on canvas.
It is in the collection of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.
